ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how we can create a mentally healthy workplace. A healthy workplace is mutually beneficial for the individual and the organization for many reasons. Workplaces that have instilled health as a primary goal for their organization can enjoy healthier and happier employees and employees can enjoy higher satisfaction from their employment. Workplaces are uniquely positioned to enhance the health and well-being of their employees when you consider that most employed people spend a large portion of their lives in the workplace. Relatedness serves to cover the component of human need to have close relationships and a sense of belonging. Healthy workplaces and productivity are directly linked and those workplaces that employ a healthy workplace policy for their employees also enjoy highly productive employees. Employees who experience interventions creating a shift towards healthy workplaces are found to self-rate their health and perceived safety as improved.
