ABSTRACT

Sin Nombre is the debut feature film written and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who was 31 years old when it came out in 2009. Focusing on illegal migration from Central America and Mexico to the United States, Sin Nombre joins two narratives of mobility. One revolves around Willy, alias El Casper, a young gang member in Tapachula, Chiapas, southern Mexico, who has to flee after murdering his gang’s leader. The other centers on the 17-year-old Honduran Sayra, her father, and her uncle, who are on their way to New Jersey, from where the father had been deported to Honduras.
