ABSTRACT

Mont Tremblant is the largest and most popular ski resort in eastern Canada. It is located about 90 miles north of Montreal, Canada, on the slopes of one of Quebec's highest mountains, tucked into the southwest corner of Mont Tremblant Park. Intrawest is the largest owner and operator of 'village-centered destination leisure resorts' in North America. Intrawest is an experienced ski resort developer with a coherent, integrated economic approach, one which necessarily extends, intensifies, and prolongs the human footprint on the mountain ecology. Intrawest's success formula thus involves the upgrading and expansion of on-mountain recreational facilities and the construction and development of animated village accommodations at the base. The federal and provincial governments recognize the importance of Intrawest's development for the economy of the region, and have supported it generously. The BAPE's goal is to have informed citizen participation and transparent decision-making. All documents, including environmental impact studies, are published on its website.
