ABSTRACT

This chapter explains what the role of experts in applied ethics is in public opinion, to prevent 'social moral conscience' from being identified with 'political correctness'. Applied ethics and public opinion are closely linked and it is important for them to continue to be so in order to be able to give 'high moral-content' responses to moral problems. The transnational civic ethics, stemming from the exercise of applied ethics, which is forging ahead, ought to be added to range of different routes which are being offered to trace out global ethics as one of the most promising ones. The formation of commissions is a central factor in the development of applied ethics, their composition constituting major problem, since good deal of what is materialised as civic ethics depends on their work. The ethics of discourse discovers foundation of the moral sphere which dialogically transforms Kantian formal principle of autonomy of will into procedural principle of discourse ethics.
