ABSTRACT

The Anti-Homosexuality Act (2014) additionally prevents the promotion of homosexuality and punishes citizens who fail to report a person suspected of being gay to the authorities. Scholarship on sexuality politics in Uganda has been limited to suggesting how rights-based approaches were used to advocate for women's rights, usually within the global health framework of HIV prevention. In Uganda, Robert Kayanja who is the Senior Pastor of the conservative evangelical Miracle Centre Cathedral in Kampala openly acknowledged American financial support for Uganda. Kaoma's 2012 report identifies Joseph Okia, the nephew of President Museveni, as the person in charge of the African operations of the evangelical American-led International Transformation Network. The Network is a global movement based in the US that seeks to reorganise Protestant churches, usually disenchanted by their more progressive Episcopalian and other mainline Protestant colleagues, into a global network aimed at taking control of all spheres in the secular world to instil conservative Christian values.
