ABSTRACT

This chapter explains number of stories from Jamie Heckert's experiences of becoming-queer, of methodological anarchism. What Jamie love about becoming-queer is the way it sidesteps any efforts to make queer into a new disciplinary category. Involved in sexual health education work with young people, in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans (LGBT) and queer politics as well as anarchist and feminist networks, Jamie had come to see the everyday ways in which the very idea of sexual orientation affects people's capacities for intimacy and honesty. The theorising that shaped the project is not all inspired by the writings of philosophers and the pornographers, by the thoughts and feelings of the participants, but also by Jamie's own participation in various social practices including intimate relationships, teaching sex education, and political activism. Jamie recently gave a talk where Jamie was very open about Jamie's emotional experiences of attempting to work within the universities.
