ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the use of different conflict resolution tools specifically in ethnonational and international conflicts and its conversation with feminist theory. It argues that Conflict Resolution (CR) which John Burton called a philosophy still lacks a coherent and widely accepted theory which can explain the causes of war and ethno national conflicts. The chapter mentions the major CR tools with specific reference to the Interactive Problem-Solving Workshop (IPSW) and how this connects to Restorative Justice (RJ) as an approach. It addresses the learnings from the IPSW and its limitations. Normative political theory viewed conflict as a contest to be won, either by the one or the other side, thus in a zero sum way. The chapter explains conflicts are complex and complicated and occur in multiple levels and be of different kinds. It describes some challenges that lie ahead in the field of CR and RJ and finally propose the need for a multi-theory interdisciplinary model.
