ABSTRACT

The fatigue of mind and body with which Selena had now for nearly a month been harassed seemed at once to overpower her at the moment when torn for the last time from the parent whose voice should never again delight her ears, she was laid senseless upon her own bed from whence she was for some days unable to rise. Selena who could not feel much consoled by the society of her father, tho' she suffered no reproach or disrespectful allusion ever to pass her lips, refused not to comply with the advice of her brother to which Mr. Miltern readily consented. The coldness the reserve of her manner was severely felt by poor Edwin while with his eyes mournfully fixed upon her face which the light of the moon shewed in all its pale interesting beauty of sadness he walked slowly by her side towards the house.
