ABSTRACT

The cultural challenge linked to the reshaping of social ties and power relations that is associated with social innovation, also implies the emergence of new governance models based on new ethics, solidarity, cooperation, reciprocity and tolerance. In the context of the cultural turn brought about by social innovation, it is important to ascertain the role of creativity and the arts in the promotion of social innovation and in the construction of socially creative milieux. Creativity can be seen as the human ability to produce new things, or create new situations, and is quite different from the notion of an innovative use of available resources and/or of known technologies. A number of projects in the forefront of cultural and artistic creation and promotion are being developed alongside traditional initiatives. The municipality has actively supported initiatives by artists and cultural programmers, either directly or as mediator between local agents and national authorities.
