ABSTRACT
This chapter talks about defensiveness apparent fall from grace, if only in the specific sense that it examines the enduring importance in the life of the city of Leeds teams of the 1960s and early 70s. On 4th June 2008, BBC Sport reported that the England shirt worn by Don Revie in his first international match against Northern Ireland in Belfast in October of 1954 had been stolen from the reception area in the West Stand at Leeds United's Elland Road stadium. So powerful is the myth of Don Revie as Leeds United's creator that the period from the club's foundation in 1919 to Revie's appointment as team manager in 1961 is described by the biographers of the Revie team as Leeds pre-history'. Leeds was the headquarters of Yorkshire County Cricket Club the county's sporting flagship and home also to three Rugby League clubs: Bramley, Leeds and Hunslet.
