ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how a talent management programme can be implemented in the most effective manner for those who have not considered such an approach before. The guidelines below spell out one approach but it is by no means the only way in which such a programme could be set up. One of the objectives of the talent management strategy is to assemble and develop a pool of high achievers. While their inherent qualities will make them a valuable asset, it is their potential to make a significant contribution to the organization that sets them apart. From experience it is useful to appoint a senior executive to act as a mentor to each development group. In order for the development groups to focus their attention on developing solutions. Inevitably the majority of the reference points will relate to costs and cost savings but some may be related to productivity levels or quality measures.
