ABSTRACT

Commentators have noted that China is taking actions to demonstrate its credentials as a responsible international actor. Becoming a more reliable stakeholder in global politics means that China is increasingly willing and able to cooperate in the delivery of international public goods such as nuclear nonproliferation, peacekeeping, and regional security (Suzuki 2008). Yet, as several contributors to this volume have noted, many concerns still remain about China’s current and longer-term goals and roles in the international society.
