ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of evidence-based literature on the topic of dramatherapy and provides the suggestions for the further development of a dramatherapy method in this area. It describes an evaluated dramatherapy method that allows for quantitative research that might comply with medical quality standards. The chapter focuses on possible effects in the treatment of schizophrenia and on singling out specific dramatherapy methods. Lambros Yotis's article illustrates that research on dramatherapy with schizophrenic patients can include quantitative, qualitative and theatre-based methods. Psychodrama therapists already have professional credibility and thus only indirectly face the same problems as a group trying to establish a new profession. Training in psychodrama takes place at postgraduate level and therefore is not a basic professional training course. Therapists who use psychodrama already have a therapeutic qualification that allows them to practise as recognized therapists.
