Health is of special moral importance to individuals’ lives. Through the maintenance of the normal functioning of the body, it is possible to protect the range of opportunities that individuals can reasonably exercise in life.1 This explains the concern modern society devotes to health, and the fact that individuals want to be and remain healthy; after all, ‘[h]ealth is necessary for much of the joy, creativity and productivity that a person derives from life’.2
