ABSTRACT

Over the past decade or so interpretive research has come of age. Interpretive research has taken its place as one valuable paradigm or research philosophy among others. A steady stream of interpretive research articles has been published in our best IS journals from the early 2000s onwards, with approximately one-quarter of all IS research articles being of an interpretive nature. This chapter looks at the reasons for the rise of interpretive research in information systems, considers some of its contributions, and suggests how interpretive research might evolve in future.
