ABSTRACT
Pirates attacking merchants at sea and on land, and highwaymen robbing stagecoaches, have all been part of society for centuries. Goods in transit have always attracted criminal attention. It is no surprise that today’s supply chains are under similar threats from modern-day criminal gangs. In addition to straightforward theft, however, we must now face a wide variety of other menaces, all of which impact on societies’ freedom of movement and safety.
