ABSTRACT

In an international context it is, however, important to emphasise that the Danish concept of project work cannot be identified either as just an extended kind of group work or as a special sort of exercise. The concept is closely related to a line of educational thinking and philosophy, in Danish identified as “experiential learning”, which although similar to, is not the same as, learning by doing, or learning by experience. Exemplarity indicates that the problems and content of the material chosen should be representative of a larger and essential area of reality. The fundamental principle of problem orientation indicates that projects very often must be interdisciplinary, as the problems of reality do not accept any boundaries of disciplines. A higher degree of flexibility and familiarity with students’ needs by the teaching staff might be another way to deal with the problem, and some small steps have been taken in this direction.
