ABSTRACT

In contrast to all other learning, learning in the workplace is specifically characterised by its special situatedness. One very important form of learning in the workplace is the learning that takes place without anybody planning it in connection with and as part of the discharge of the daily duties and daily contact. The learning environment is of altogether fundamental significance for both the extent and character of the learning that takes place in the workplace. One element in the learning environment of the workplace that there is every reason to pay attention to these days is the deployment of modern information and communication technology (ICT). There seems to be broad agreement that there are great possibilities in using ICT as an important aid in connection with learning in the workplace. Much learning in the workplace is of informal and partially incidental character, but is nonetheless influenced by being subjected to the conditions of workplace learning.
