ABSTRACT

This study desired to know more about how adult African American learners experienced predominantly white, faith-based ADCPs. Given the lack of literature about African American experiences in adult education in faithbased contexts, it became apparent that this investigation would offer new empirical data that would inform researchers and practitioners how race, adult education, and faith intersected for these participants. The stories shared by the students as well as the interpretation of the major themes apply to similar situations for students, teachers, and administrators at degreeseeking, nondegree-seeking, as well as nonacademic religious organizations.
