ABSTRACT

Promoting creative thinking at the beginning level in architecture points toward training of awareness of bodily sensibilities in an attempt to grasp the fleetingly intelligible within design and composition. Everything that emerges from the hands of the young designer who begins must tend toward something with its own value for its plastic-constructive and expressive character. A primary objective of representation-based design pedagogy is to awaken beginning students through a process where the essential elements of art and architecture are approached through contact with those qualities which, by their presence, attract and speak to us. It appears as a place where the young student can claim his/her sensitive and sensible body, through the practice of touching matter and doing things with his/her hands as a bridge toward an inner world of feelings. Evoking ritual touch can be seen as a process where sensibility and those primal senses of the body become activated.
