ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the nature of the assessment information gathered and some of the intervention work completed with an Olympic athlete. It discusses the intervention work focusing on specific competition preparation, but also aspects related to overall social support and rehabilitation from injury. The chapter identifies the way in which the practitioner was able to refocus his work dynamically in new directions in relation to the client's needs. It describes the case study that reflects an example of a long-term working relationship with an individual athlete performing in a team sport in the period leading up to and after an Olympic Games. Through the work with this client there are a number of key reflections that warrant consideration for any applied practitioner. In the current case under discussion, the use of email, text, Skype, and YouTube clips certainly enhanced the application of psychological principles with the client.
