ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the history of current supervisors, supervision philosophy and supervision process at Integrated Developmental Model (IDM) Academy, as well as delve into the specific experiences of one student who took advantage of an applied mental conditioning summer internship working with youth athletes from a variety of sports and levels. Strong supervision is one of the major cornerstones in the development of any neophyte sport psychology practitioner. In the IDM model, growth of the supervisee is based on self and other awareness, motivation, and autonomy. Silva, Metzler, and Lerner shared multiple methods for supervision, including self-report, case notes, audiovisual recording, interpersonal process recall, group supervision, live observation, and live supervision. Formal supervision should be an integral part of any sport psychology practitioner's process, navigating the journey from novice to experienced professional. Ideally, supervision should continue throughout the life of every consultant's career.
