ABSTRACT

This chapter explores peer supervision and mentoring practiced at European Network of Young Sport Psychologists (ENYSSP) as a valuable part of professional development both formally, as set up through a network-type organization, as well as informally among colleagues based on the example of a novice SEPP consultant. It presents the case of a novice SEPP practitioner who has recently graduated from an international sport psychology master's program abroad. The chapter examines an applied example of how peer supervision and mentoring can supplement, or in some cases substitute for, a traditional model of supervision. Developing a working and well-structured philosophy is a vital part of success in the SEPP field. While the purpose of the ENYSSP peer consultation session (PCS) is the development of the practitioners themselves, the central and end goal is to ensure the welfare of the athlete or performer. Multiple advantages for the young practitioner can be identified when participating in the ENYSSP PCS.
