ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the use of technology in the supervision and training of applied sport psychology practitioners. It presents a definition of supervision and a discussion of various technologies that can be used to enhance and facilitate supervision and training. The technology used in supervision includes tools such as one-way mirrors, video, online discussions, communication technologies, record-keeping software, and online survey software that can facilitate self-awareness and enhance the opportunity for people to learn from each other. It can enhance vicarious learning related to service delivery and supervision as trainees consider the work of other practitioners. Using technology in supervision involves in-person supervision meetings as well as a host of other activities such as live observation through one-way mirrors, discussions of recorded sessions, analyses of cases and situations presented online, and exploring trainee questions about processes and techniques. The use of technology can enrich supervision experiences for trainees and supervisors.
