ABSTRACT

Throughout modern history, students have attended school to acquire the knowledge and skills that they need in order to become productive citizens. School programs and lesson plans are typically structured to allow most children within a specific society to develop the required skills and acquire knowledge appropriate to the cultural norms. The approach that involves a system-wide focus on specific skills in the transition from education to the workforce has historically paid off. Now, with increasing flexibility of the requirements for the modern workforce, there are increasing opportunities for high achievers to have an impact. In fact, the quality of human capital can determine a country’s role in the world marketplace (Hausmann & Hidalgo, 2011), and drive competitiveness at the global level.
