ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study about Alon, who was 15 years old at the time of the second interview, collaborated with the interviewer. He was cooperative; however, his answers were short and brief and he did not volunteer information with ease. Alon was diagnosed as dyslexic at the age of 8. He was referred to the school psychologist for an evaluation during the summer holidays between the second and the third grades due to learning and emotional problems. His writing contained many homophonic spelling errors. On the basis of this evaluation, the psychologist diagnosed Alon as suffering from a reading disability and subsequently he started receiving one 45-minute weekly lesson from the school's reading specialist. According to the report, after diagnosis and documentation of eligibility for test accommodations, parents in Israel have to battle with the school and the teachers to secure their children's rights.
