Building relationships with whānau to develop effective supports for Māori Deaf children

This chapter describes how the use of the Māori principle of whakawhanaungatanga (developing relationships within a Māori value system) in the research process led to a process of wānanga (collective deliberation) among researcher and participants about how to conceptualise and organise the services, support systems and whānau (extended family networks) of Māori Deaf children to better support the early development of the Deaf child.
