ABSTRACT
This chapter describes a project that investigated language and settlement issues among Sudanese refugees in a regional Australian town and how our initial design met with unexpected outcomes in this culturally and linguistically diverse community. By shifting our focus and allowing participants to tell their own stories, I highlight how our research team was better able to get to the heart of the issues and discover the voices of our participants. 1
