Challenges in conducting ethical classroom-based research across cultures

This chapter draws on a series of unanticipated events that highlight the ethical challenges I encountered setting up an Australian research project in a Japanese technical college. I describe how I negotiated external events and cultural expectations and I reflect on how I managed the different ethical procedures and obligations across the two cultures.
