ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is on self-evaluation following hearing rehabilitation. Hearing rehabilitation in this context includes amplification (i.e., hearing aids and other hearing assistive technology), instruction on effective communication, and counseling. It is important to note that there is an element of self-evaluation throughout the entire patient journey, from awareness to resolution. However, a person with hearing loss (PHL) tends to spend a significant amount of time trying to make meaning of hearing loss and reflecting on positive and negative aspects of hearing rehabilitation. The self-evaluation is heavily influenced by expectations and experiences of a PHL.
