XI (Jan. 1808) 285–89. The author was Henry Brougham, a lawyer and Whig M.P., who became Lord Chancellor in 1830. The authority for this attribution is Walter E. Houghton (ed.), The Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals (Toronto, 1966), p. 442. This was the review which was instrumental in calling forth Byron’s English Bards and Scotch Reviewers.
