ABSTRACT

The Singapore government has taken a hard stand against gangsterism, and through their initiative many programmes are offered to help troubled youth. REACH Youth is one of these services, under REACH Community Services Society in Singapore (RCSS). In our various programmes and services, we are mindful of the changing needs and expectations of our youth clientele, the stakeholders that we work with and the national landscape of policies and trends so that we can serve our clientele in the best possible way. One of the common characteristics of our youth is that they don’t easily accept help. Many come from broken homes or dual-income families where parents are not able to provide adequate supervision for their children. When they are ‘caught’ by the system and referred to us, they just play along with the process and don’t see that they have anything to work on. Some of these youths are referred to our program through schools and the police because of their risk-taking behaviours.
