ABSTRACT

The improvement of concrete living conditions of people with disabilities is highly connected to technological progress. The rapid development of Information Communications Technology has induced numerous developments, especially during the last few decades. New possibilities of participation in different areas have emerged due to the development of innovative Assistive Technologies (AT). AT is a technical, supportive device, which is used to obtain or improve the functional possibilities of persons with disabilities. Systematically, three kinds of AT can be distinguished: Mobility assistive listening devices; Augmentative and alternative communication; and Alerting devices. The group of people with a mild learning disability makes up a great part of all people with disabilities. A learning disability is a disorder in one or more of the basic cognitive abilities. The progressing digitalization of developed countries social systems urges people to use technologies in order to participate in social environments – with high expectations towards competences and equipment.
