ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the goals and missions of the selected victims' service providers. It helps to understand the need for a national survey on victims' service providers. The chapter also explains why the American Society of Victimology (ASV) has not flourished as has the World Society. The joint meeting between the ASV and the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) in February 2010 probably marked the end of the ASV. As of 2016, the division leaders were working on establishing a new victimology journal for Division of Victimology (DOV) members (ASC) and in conjunction with the Section on Victimology members (ACJS). The National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) was the first national victim assistance organization founded in the United States. The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) was established in the Office of Justice Programs, US Department of Justice.
