ABSTRACT

The goal of Archistream is to make architecture more accessible through a welcoming interactive experience at community gathering spaces like farmers' markets, fairs and schools, particularly in rural areas. In order to gain a more complete understanding of how the Archistream and its building type fit in the historical and modern context, the studio began with a study of precedents, divided into five typologies: Mobile/Prefab, Historical Precedents, Small Scale Architecture, Making Space/ Digital Fabrication and Insertion — New in Old. The client relationship, unique to a design-build studio, allows students to begin to understand the complexities of the profession of architecture. The production phase highlights the initial efforts in building teamwork. With the honest use of materials and innovative fabrication methods, the Archistream provides a mobile gallery and resource center that, through form and program, educates the public about the exciting potential of architecture.
