ABSTRACT

Learn-Move-Play-Ground (LMPG) are a series of Design-Build Studios that took place in primary public schools in Cairo, Egypt, between 2012 and 2014. The title of the projects, LMPG, is for the professors of the German University, Cairo and for their students, a sort of symbol because it summarizes the philosophy of our projects. The main idea behind these projects is—for the children the act of learning does not occur solely in the classroom through teaching and information contained in books. University students from Architecture, Urban Design and Educational Science from Germany and Egypt worked with these professors and students on the implementation of the new playing landscapes. During the participatory phase of the workshop, they helped the children in building models based on the most exciting events in their lives, and those were mainly related to the trip from Syria to Egypt. The students realized that architecture can have a social impact on the people.
