A story about storytelling: enhancement of community participation through catalytic storytelling
Community development has been construed as a process, a program, an ideology, and an outcome (Phillips & Pittman, 2009; Robinson & Green, 2011). The work of community developers must welcome inclusive public participation, in which diverse groups from within a community can voice their opinions and be active in community change (Checkoway, 2009). For community developers, “The challenge … is to remake participation: reframing the interactions among communities, professionals, and institutions into a truly ‘participatory space’” (Eversole, 2012, p. 32). For the greatest impact, multiple disciplines, traditions, methods, and tools need to be considered.
