ABSTRACT

The internal security challenges include a host of issues from Left Wing Extremism, terrorism, communalism to food and environmental security. While all these are significant, the core internal security challenges are comprise Left Wing Extremism, terrorism in the country, communal violence and insurgency in the North-Eastern region. The natures of these challenges vary and therefore need to be seen in the proper perspective. Though the issues highlighted earlier appear to be security driven, their economic, sociological and psychological dimensions play a crucial role in varying degrees in shaping the nature of challenges.
