ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some models of leadership that can contribute an enhanced commitment to addressing the wellness issues on the campus. The importance of the student wellness on a college campus extends beyond the experience of that student. It has impact on the well-being of the university community, the family of the student, the persistence and graduation rates of the campus as well as the post-graduation success and satisfaction of students. The chapter also provides some guiding principles that can undergird the campus efforts and to explore ways to overcome some of the obstacles that occur. The pervasiveness of the need to address wellness issues on the campus, and the presence of wide variety of members of the educational community, challenge individuals' work on student wellness efforts to make these issues important to others. A college that is grounded in a religious tradition may provide opportunities for the issue of student wellness to the existing tenets of the school.
