Elamite Forgeries and the Antiquities Market (Oscar White Muscarella)
Forgeries of Elamite antiquities are but one example of the forgeries known from all Ancient Near Eastern polities and cultures, and as such they are not unique. Although they may be fewer in number relative to those from other cultures, they nevertheless warrant discussion. The examples of “Elamite” objects that the author recognizes as fake are presented herein together with an overview of the inherent problems with the antiquities market.
