ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the situation of Polish schools organized by the Ministry of Education in Poland. Polish teachers working in mainstream. In Polish community education can function as important bridge ties between both educations. Secondary education in Flanders is not comprehensive but characterized as an early tracking system with three main distinct pathways: general secondary education leading to higher education, technical secondary education leading to higher education and vocational education leading more directly to specific professions on labour market. As research on the educational situation of youngsters with an immigrant background in Flanders usually refers to people of Turkish or Moroccan origin, it focuses on Polish community. Flemish cultural emblems are self-evident and central in mainstream education in such a way that parents of Flemish origin generally feel supported by a system that to a large extent shares their emblems and ethno cultural background. This institutional support for family socialization processes strengthens the congruence between the home and school environment.
