ABSTRACT

During the spring a leader can begin to see the fruits of their labor if they stay committed to working school improvement processes, promoting a healthy culture, and supporting teacher development. They accomplish this by planting one foot solidly in the current school year and maintaining efforts, while the other foot is planted in planning forward. Making sure that learning is occurring for students and staff and recognizing improvement are actions that will help ensure continued growth for the school and the system. School leaders need to make decisions in the spring to determine if school improvement efforts have been successful and if staff has the support they need to continue to grow. They need to weed out the processes that are standing in the way of the continued development of a healthy culture that result in higher levels of achievement for students.
