ABSTRACT

The Amazon Basin is a primatological paradise, home to a truly amazing variety of species, ranging from the mouse-like pygmy marmoset to the comparatively gigantic woolly and spider monkeys, gangly denizens of the tree-tops. Between these two extremes, there are monkeys of all shapes, sizes, and colors, with extravagant hair styles, handlebar mustaches, bald heads, and comb-overs, as well as bug-eyed bug-eaters and frenetic gremlins. A motley crew, perhaps, but this treasure-trove of primatological diversity is mostly still waiting to be unraveled.
