ABSTRACT

They are America's sports cathedrals. Mammoth in size and grandiose in design, baseball and football stadiums have become centerpieces of the urban landscape in the United States. Unlike the towering religious cathedrals that have marked American and European cities for centuries, stadiums are generally not venerated for their historic value. Instead, they are often denigrated for being too old and out of date to accommodate how modern games are played and viewed. In the sporting world, newer and bigger beats historic and intimate.
