ABSTRACT

Although space constraints do not permit me to explore these issues, let alone to develop positive recommendations about how they should be addressed, I do believe that this way of capturing the notion of capacity can be seamlessly integrated into Fischer’s existing framework. I also believe that embracing my diachronic account of capacity might help other compatibilists who draw inspiration from Fischer’s work to meet their incompatibilist colleagues’ worries, and perhaps even their students’ and their own nagging incompatibilist doubts, in a dialectically appropriate manner. That is, in a manner which recognises from whence such criticisms, doubts and worries stem, and one that tries to meet them on this turf.
