## The difficulties of conceptual revision

The idea here is simple and powerful. If a different set of abilities can be identified that are metaphysically unproblematic, and such capacities could be employed to function in exactly the same way as those previously associated with libertarian free will, then we will have an alternative, revised, concept that is just as good normatively, since it preserves the same patterns of justification that were present prior to the conceptual revision, but will have been purged of costly metaphysics (Vargas 2005, 241-3; 2007b, 151-4).
