Note that fit need not be understood as an all things considered reason. Rather, the relevant force of a “fit to blame” claim is typically understood as a reason that can be overridden by other relevant considerations. When we claim that it is fitting to blame an agent, the normative force involved is that it would be permissible to blame the agent provided no overriding considerations were present.
