ABSTRACT

The 2013 national elections in Israel brought to the public’s attention the phenomenon of media personalities and celebrities turned politicians more than ever before. The most prominent among them has been Yair Lapid, a popular newspaper columnist, TV anchorperson, interviewer and author. His newly formed party Yesh Atid (‘There is a Future’) won 19 seats in the 120-member parliament. Following the elections, Yesh Atid became a major partner in Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition with Lapid nominated as Minister of Finance.
