Pages 18

This chapter uses the resource-based perspective on strategy to study how firms collaborate with universities and the conditions under which such collaboration can be a strategy for firms to gain sustainable competitive advantage. While universities may offer firms access to new knowledge, gaining competitive advantage from university collaboration is not straightforward. Collaboration with universities is often pursued in an ad hoc manner, led by individual initiative rather than corporate strategy. This study approaches university collaboration from a strategic perspective rooted in the management of the firm.
