ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book introduces the sexual victimization of men and boys in the early 1990s. It examines male survivor's reaction to somatic problems, research about male sexual victimization and brain chemistry after trauma. The book focuses on the cultural and institutional settings of male sexual victimization. It also focuses on various aspects of sexuality, from trafficking in adolescent boys to gender and/or sexually diverse men to orientation confusion, sexual interests and compulsions, kinks, and sexual dysfunctions. There were articles and books about female victims of sexual abuse and incest, though not many. These usually acknowledged the existence of male victims, but included no discussion, leaving the reader to believe either that boys or men were rarely abused or that the impact on them was not different than on female victims.
